Me and My Silly Little Poems

I have always loved poetry. It is a massive part of why I chose to study English at university. However, I am always been intimidated at the prospect of writing my own, but in a recent uni assignment I chose to finaaaallllly give it a go. So, here are my silly little poems that I actually ended up being pretty proud of. Please be nice, I’m a Leo so I’m sensitive.

Inspired by: The Garden by Andrew Marvell

Now lost inside the peace of mind,

All sins forgotten, left behind.

Our everlasting ending place,

Hidden behind green floral gates.

Tranquillity placed upon thee.

Step back from all the world and see.

Heaven on earth finally found.

Or is it something less profound?

Quickly by life we are consumed.

Worries and stress we are to be doomed.

But here lies an open, safe space.

To bask in all that one has been graced.

Created with earth, air and fire

A place filled with all one’s desires.

How blind must I have truly been?

For this joyous place to have not seen.

Distracted by my selfish needs

Tied down by green, venomous weeds.

Stumbled upon this place of free

Where I only need to be me.

Inspired by: Mont Blanc by Percy Bysshe Shelley

The existence of being is heavy.

Unasked for we must plough through daily life,

Mountains to climb and few roads to travel,

In order to find our rumoured purpose.

In a fabricated world, what is real?

We follow blindly a world unaware

Born to flames or brought to you in waves.

Foundations crumble, forests fall apart.

Unsteady emotions are swept away,

The motions keep moving, all directions,

Finally heading up to pierce the sky.

Breathing our last breath as we go to die.

Time waits for no man, mountains turn to sand,

Blurring the line between life and sweet death

We turn to hope in great uncertainty.

In God we find short blissful ignorance.

Turn life to shapes to validate our fate

And avoid the blame of our own mistakes.

Rivers continue to flow, trees to grow

Until it is our time to go -
